This is my second time owning the Nike Air Trainer 3 Medicine Ball. I can’t believe people keep sleeping on this shoe!
Historically, many associate Air Trainers with Bo Jackson. The Air Trainer III came out in 1988 and is a Tinker Hatfield design. This colorway is based off of typical colors on worn-in medicine balls back in the day. The story goes Tinker wanted a shoe that worked anywhere in the gym instead of needing multiple pairs for different activities.
The leather on this is really nice! I think people don’t know what they’re missing out on with these with respect to the materials and construction. These trainers are solid tanks, but the leather also has a supple quality that just screams out “premium”. Definitely stoked on the materials here.
How Do They Fit?
I’m thinking this is where Nike loses some people with the trainers. The Nike Air Trainer 3 Medicine Ball fit snug. I went true to size but many size up on these. With options like flyknit and boost around, you might only want these if you wanted a retro shoe and had some familiarity with what these are already. I found that at true to size, leaving the shoe unstrapped allows for a little bit more room and comfort in the front of the shoe. That said, these aren’t uncomfortable once they’re broken in and I’d still recommend these for anyone that wants some retros that will take a beating and still keep going!
